BYD Leopard 3 in detail

BYD Leopard 3, officially sold as the Fang Cheng Bao Ti 3 in China, looks like a compact off-roader but is primarily designed for urban use and road trips. The Flash Charging version gains the second-generation Blade Battery, an 800-volt electrical system and substantially more powerful motors. It is neither a body-on-frame 4×4 nor a smaller Leopard 5. It is a distinct five-seat electric crossover with a practical cabin and an unusually generous selection of storage compartments.

At 4,605 mm long, the Ti 3 appears shorter because of its upright surfaces, pronounced wheel arches and external tailgate box. A 2,745 mm wheelbase provides useful rear-seat room. The 151-litre front trunk can hold charging cables and travel gear, while a separate 28-litre compartment is fitted at the rear.

The 1,900 mm width requires care in tight streets, but the straight body edges are easy to judge from the driver’s seat. A double-ball-joint MacPherson arrangement at the front and a five-link rear suspension are intended for normal roads rather than extreme trails. DiSus-C adjusts damper stiffness to keep body movement under control without making daily driving unnecessarily harsh.

Cabin and equipment

The interior combines large physical switches with digital displays. The driver gets an 8.8-inch instrument panel, the centre touchscreen measures 15.6 inches and key information is projected by a 12-inch head-up display. A heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, acoustic front glass and rear privacy glass are also available.

The AWD model adds a heating and cooling refrigerator, a 14-speaker Devialet audio system, seat memory, adjustable lumbar support and a passenger leg rest. Even the RWD car remains generously equipped and easy to use every day, with plenty of places for phones, bottles and small bags.

Range and Flash Charging

The entry RWD model uses a 65.3 kWh battery and is rated for 510 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle. The 620 km RWD and 565 km AWD versions use a 75.6 kWh pack. The Chinese-market vehicle has no official WLTP or EPA homologation, so the European-cycle figures shown on this page are transparent estimates. Actual range will depend on speed, temperature, tyres and battery conditioning.

At a compatible BYD charger, the battery is claimed to go from 10 to 70% in about 5 minutes and from 10 to 97% in about 9 minutes. This is an ideal scenario that requires BYD’s dedicated infrastructure. Such charging is not yet realistically available in Ukraine, and the Chinese GB/T port means an owner must plan the adapter, home charger and service support before buying.

Performance and drivetrain

Both rear-wheel-drive versions produce 240 kW and 305 Nm. The 510 km model reaches 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, while the heavier long-range version takes 7.3 seconds. The AWD Ti 3 combines an induction front motor with a permanent-magnet rear motor for 375 kW and 505 Nm, cutting the sprint to 4.7 seconds. Every version has a 210 km/h top speed.

iATS terrain recognition and iTAC torque management give the AWD car extra confidence on snow, sand and slippery tracks. Nevertheless, the unibody structure and road tyres do not turn it into a heavy expedition vehicle. The Leopard 3 best suits a buyer who wants distinctive styling, rapid electric performance and strong practicality, and is prepared to deal with the Chinese charging ecosystem.

  • Exceptionally fast dedicated charging. A compatible station can make the stop remarkably short.
  • Useful storage. The 151-litre frunk and 28-litre rear box are genuinely practical.
  • Modern hardware. An 800 V system, Blade Battery 2.0, CTB and heat pump are combined in one vehicle.
  • User-friendly cabin. Important controls have not all been buried in the touchscreen.
  • Two distinct characters. RWD prioritises efficiency while AWD provides much stronger performance.
  • Generous specification. The HUD, heated equipment and large display are widely available.

BYD Leopard 3 disadvantages

  • Chinese GB/T port. Ukrainian charging requires a suitable adapter solution.
  • No official WLTP or EPA rating. European range has to be estimated.
  • Flash Charging availability. The headline speed depends on BYD’s own network.
  • Not a heavy-duty off-roader. The rugged appearance exceeds its trail-focused hardware.
  • Importer dependence. Warranty, software and parts support need checking.
  • Wide body. The 1,900 mm width is noticeable in tight parking spaces.
