Zeekr a leader in the performance electric vehicle market
Zeekr electric cars: brand history, the SEA platform, the 001, X, 7X, 7GT, 009 and MIX models, charging, driving range, and key considerations when choosing one in Ukraine.
Zeekr is one of the young Chinese brands that did not have to transition from petrol cars to electric vehicles. Its model range was built from the outset around an electric platform and digital services. The brand is part of Geely Holding Group but is positioned above Geely’s mass-market models.
Zeekr is interesting not only because of the popular 001. Its lineup includes the X and 7X crossovers, the 007 sedan, the 009 and MIX minivans, and the 7GT estate. The origin of a particular car matters, because Chinese and European versions differ in batteries, charging ports, equipment, and software.
Zeekr’s entry into the electric car market
Geely unveiled the Zeekr brand on April 15, 2021, in Ningbo, China. On the same day, the Zeekr 001 debuted — a large electric shooting brake with a spacious cabin and powerful drivetrains. The first production cars were delivered to owners in October 2021. It was the 001 that defined the brand’s character: a fast electric car with an unusual body style, generous equipment, and an interior that was noticeably more practical than one might expect from a sporty model.
The brand gained access to Geely Holding’s engineering resources and the modular SEA architecture. Its global design center operates in Gothenburg, Sweden, where the cars are also adapted to European market requirements.
After the 001, the company rapidly expanded its lineup. The 009 minivan appeared in 2022, followed by the compact X and the 007 sedan in 2023. The family-oriented 7X and spacious MIX debuted the following year. Zeekr was created as Geely’s standalone premium electric brand. This allowed the company to work with traction batteries, electric drive systems, and a new electronic architecture from the beginning rather than adapting platforms designed for petrol cars.
The first models were based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture, abbreviated as SEA. This is a family of Geely platforms designed for different body types, battery sizes, and rear- or all-wheel-drive layouts. The 001, X, 007, and 009 are built on related versions of this architecture.
At first, Zeekr produced only electric vehicles. In 2025, the flagship 9X appeared with the SEA Super Hybrid system. It is a plug-in hybrid with a petrol engine, so it should not be classified as a fully electric vehicle.
Key features of Zeekr electric cars
Early European versions of the Zeekr 001 and X use a 400-volt system. The newer 7X and 7GT use an 800-volt architecture that supports significantly faster charging. For example, a Zeekr 7X with a 75 kWh battery can charge from 10 to 80% in around 13 minutes under suitable conditions. Versions with a 100 kWh battery take about 16 minutes.
Entry-level versions use lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, batteries, while NMC batteries are used for longer driving range. Battery capacity and charging speed therefore need to be checked for the specific trim level.
The interiors are focused on touchscreen controls, a mobile app, and over-the-air updates. Cars built for China may have limitations involving menu languages, navigation, connectivity, and software updates. For a Ukrainian buyer, the vehicle’s regional origin can sometimes be more important than its claimed range.
Popular Zeekr models
The Zeekr 001 remains the brand’s most recognizable model. It has a large five-door body, a spacious second row, and a roomy luggage compartment. The European rear-wheel-drive version offers up to 620 km of WLTP range. Updated Chinese-market variants may use different batteries and electronics.
The compact Zeekr X is more convenient for city use and is offered with rear- or all-wheel drive. Its European driving range reaches 446 km WLTP. Technically, it is related to the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1, but it has its own interior and equipment.
The Zeekr 7X is aimed at family buyers who need more space than the X provides. The crossover is available with 75 or 100 kWh batteries, rear- or all-wheel drive, and up to 615 km of WLTP range. The all-wheel-drive version accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. This is typical of Zeekr: even a practical five-seat car receives performance figures that until recently were associated with sports models.
The Zeekr 7GT arrived in Europe in 2026. The Long Range RWD version with a 100 kWh battery offers up to 655 km of WLTP range, while the all-wheel-drive version develops 646 hp. The 007 sedan and the 009 and MIX minivans remain dependent on the specific market.
Where Zeekr is heading next
The brand plans to cover around 90% of European markets by the end of 2026. After the 001 and X, the 7X arrived, along with the 7GT developed for Europe. New models alone, however, will not be enough. Further success will depend on service support, localized software, and spare-parts availability.
New electric vehicles are moving toward 800-volt systems, faster-charging batteries, and more powerful computing platforms. At the same time, the arrival of the hybrid 9X means that the brand is no longer limited exclusively to fully electric vehicles.
For city use, the X is the most convenient option. For family trips, the 7X is the logical model to consider, while the 001 and 7GT offer more space without moving to a tall crossover. Buyers should compare specific regional versions, because the vehicle’s full functionality depends heavily on its intended market.
